BOYCOTT OF HONG-KONG. BRITISH DELEGATION
APPOINTED.

HONG-KONG, JUNE 17.
The Hong-kong Government officially announces the appointment of Mr. E. R. Hallifax, Secretary for Chinese Affairs, and Mr. Kemp. Attorney-General, to negotiate a settlement of the boycott with Canton. Mr. Brenan, one of the British Consuls in China, completes the delega- tion, Chinese circles regard the boycott As 90 per cent, settled," but foreigners! are sceptical, the majority regarding tho Canton overtures as elaborate "window dressing."
Canton claims that Tong Shang-chi has pushed back Wu Pei-fu's forces in Hunan and is now threatening Changsha, the capital, but other reports allege that Tong Shang-chi has been defeated and is clamouring for reinforcements. Chang Kai-shek states that he will leave early for the front and take supreme command. Canton Customs employees are threaten- ing to strike owing to the Commissioner's refusal to permit the formation of a new 'union.
